School Districts

Salem City Schools are among the best. All of the schools are fully accredited by the Virginia Department of Education as well as the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The Salem City School Division was also recognized by the Virginia Board of Education as a "Distinguished Title I School Division." Every school in Salem met all AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) under the provisions of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) in 2007.

These distinguished honors are in part a result of the ability and diligence of Salem's teachers. To date, 18 Salem Teachers have earned National Board Certification. In addition, Salem's teacher salaries rank 12th out of 133 Virginia school divisions, at $2,025 higher than the state average per teacher.

Additionally, The Salem Educational Foundation awarded more than $155,000 in scholarships to 79 members of the Salem High School Class of 2008.

For all these reasons and more, in Salem you can rest assured that your kids will receive a first class education.
